Any, Any, "I don't understand what you're saying." (Stardew Valley)
She’d been through the mines countless times, she’d fished more fish than she cared to think about and she’d lost track of how many times her hoe bit the earth.
She waited until she was out of sight to throw her hands up in the air, the dwarf’s incomprehensible chatter still ringing in her ears—she was so close, she was certain.
If only she could find that last blasted scroll.
Final Fantasy VI, Setzer/Daryl, fools like us
"She is going to be the fastest being these skies have seen," Daryl declared, raising her wine glass and that shining gleam in her eyes and the flash of her bold smile were infectious. "Here's to us!"
Setzer raised his glass to the setting sun, to the sea and to all the hills between and spoke, "Here's to a pair of fools like us."
Tales of Symphonia, any, in the dark
She smiles at Lloyd's excitement and is truly glad he came after them.
She smiles at the chatter and warmth she can't feel, but holds onto around the campfire and a no-doubt wonderful meal made by Genis.
Colette smiles over the pang of guilt worming into her heart and tells herself that sometimes maybe it's better to be kept in the dark; she'll bring the light soon and their happiness will remain.
Chrono Trigger, nu, stop stealing the damn mop
The nu knew they had to be most gentle and try they did as they tugged and tugged at the mop handle, but their foe was a fierce one and wouldn't let go. The nu dreamed of a time when they could better attend their duties. For now all they could do was lose continuously to the prince's cat, his teeth firmly clamped around the mop head tassels.
Bravely Default, Ringabel, bad pickup lines
Ringabel watched on appreciatively as Edea weighed the Valkyrie asterisk and said, "I think it suits you beautifully my dear, for you fly ever high in my heart."
The stare she treated him with threatened her spear through him next time and he backed off with a mournful sigh.
Perhaps such things might come off better from the Performer asterisk?
Final Fantasy VI, Cyan/Sabin, moving on from sadness
They had no plans to meet but in the world's restoration they came together at the ruins of Doma and after a period of standing together in silence and memory Cyan said, "My family and home were lost that day and I thought to follow them. I believe I would have if thou did not come then."
Sabin slung a large arm around his shoulders and considered his absence before saying firmly, "I'm glad I did."
Oxford Time Travel series, Ned/Verity, learning about herding cats the hard way
I should have known after that long wet night along the river with Princess Arjumand and the many long days after trying to keep her from meeting her watery fate all over again. Maybe I let time soften the memories or maybe I thought time-lag made it seem worse than it was.
Either way I never put much consideration into the old phrase "like herding cats" and now we paid the price for not giving the phrase the respect it deserved, as Verity managed to return one wriggling kitten back into their pen just in time for another to spring out while I tried to stop her sibling from bolting from the room, but as I put him back in the pen (again), the look I exchanged with Verity was equal parts exhaustion, exasperation and fondness and yes, herding cats isn't for the faint of heart, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Gargoyles, Elisa, flying
There were some things Elisa knew she would never get used to.
Goliath's arm was firmly around her and she knew she was safe; she could stare at the sky above lit by the silver moon and stars closer now than before and the city below in a sight both comfortingly familiar for how many times she walked those streets and utterly new, lit by a thousand glows of streetlamps and car lights as people went about their business like any other day in a mosaic spread before her.
There were some things she would never get used to and it was for the better if it meant a breathtaking sight like this every time.
Any,any, an excellent big brother. (FFVI, Sabin and Edgar)
"How low can you?!" Setzer had exclaimed and a part of Sabin was initially inclined to agree with the statement while Edgar kept up a very pointed stare at the little exchange and firmly away from Sabin.
Sabin turned the coin over and over in his hands as if the view would change from side to side like that wasn't the point and trick of the whole deal, and yet, and yet Edgar had said it back then: "without any regrets". He'd covered all his bases well, and maybe he was right after all because Sabin didn't have any regrets, so what else was there to do but make sure his big brother got the thanks he deserved and the knowledge that he was cared for just as much in return.
